Reviews:

A highly anticipated album by many. People either seem to be checking for him hard or not at all. I didn’t expect much before listening to the album and must admit I was fairly impressed with the album as a whole. Much more than I expected. Not a classic but an above average, noteworthy effort that does deserve a few spins. After listening to the album it is apparent that you will be hearing more from "The Game" in the near future regardless of how stupid a name with "The" in front of it sounds.

The album is well put together and is not at all what I expected from a protégé of Dr. Dre. I expected a full album of Dre beats but productions vary on "The Documentary" and the songs fit well together as an album, which can be tricky to accomplish using so many different producers. Dr. Dre, Che Vicious, Scott Storch, Kanye West, Cool & Dre, Havoc, Just Blaze, Timbaland, Mike Elizondo, Jeff Bhasker, Hi-Tek, Eminem, Focus, Needlz, and Buckwild round out productions for "The Documentary."

Eminem's beats always sound the same. By now we all know it. His track "We Ain't" is one of the weakest on the album but of course expect hardcore Eminem fans to rave about it. Highlights include "Put on your Game" by Timbaland. 50 cent appears on three tracks like the catchy Cool & Dre produced, "Hate It Or Love It" featuring 50 Cent where he spits:

"Confusion occurs coming up in a cold world, daddy aint around, probably out committing felonies, my favorite rapper used to sing 'Check, check out my melody,' I wanna live good so shit I sell dope, for a four finger ring or maybe one of those gold ropes, nana told me if I can get a sheep skin coat, if I move a few a packs, ill get the hat, now that would be dope, tossed and turned in my sleep that night, woke up the next morning niggaz done stole my bike, lifting dice same shit aint nothing good in the hood, ill run away from this bitch and never come back that would be good. Hate it, or love it the underdogs on top, and im gon' shine homie until my heart stop, go ahead and envy me, im' raps MVP and I aint going nowhere so you can get to know me..."

Hi-Tek's "Runnin" is one of the best tracks on the album. The Hi-Tek track is hot reminiscent of Dr. Dre in his "Chronic" days with his signature G-Funk electronic keys. Dr. Dre does come through on this album with tracks "Dont worry" featuring Mary J. Blige , which I am sure will hit the radio, "How We Do," and "Higher" where The Game spits some of his more comical lines:

"Ill do anything, but I wont f*ck Mariah, even if she had Ashanti buck naked in bed, cuz she got a forehead just like Tyra. I can say what the f*ck I want..."

The rhymes are hotter than luke warm but not fire. There’s potential for this Compton rapper and "The Documentary" is definately a good start. The album is worth listening to, more than I expected and an overall good effort.
